review 1: This is a bit of fluff disguised as a steampunk action/romance story. If you want a short novel that tries its hand at the tropes of the genre, this is right up your alley. While it has its limitations, I thought the main character Finley was intriguing most of the time. I found some of the dialogue out of place, slipping into modern phrases at strange times, overall I was pleasantly entertained and will probably read more of the series to see what happens in Finley's world.
review 2: I like this book a lot actually. But I have a few issues with it.It's set in England in 1897 but it was like she never got the language down..some of the mannerisms of the time period were off, like it was an afterthought. The cover. (I know, the cover is not really important b... moreut it peeves me) It's pretty but to me it didn't fit the story at all. Finley wore a dress once or twice the whole book. This cover makes it seem like she's highborn aristocrat and she's really not.Also, the author would go from a different POV mid paragraph then go back to the original POV in a couple of sentences. It was confusing at times.Every review I've read so far complained about the romance part of it but there's really no romance at all. Kinda like she put it in there just because we expected it. I was disappointed... I liked Griffin a lotOther than that I thought it was good. I liked the whole steampunk vibe.Finley is pretty badass. I loved how blunt and no nonsense she is.I definitely want to read the next book and see if it's a little better than the first. less
