review 1: This is my least favorite of the series. I loved the idea of Mila taking off on her own to prove herself and landing in with the circus. I loved the idea of another war raging between Griffin King and the Machinist in the aether. Finley Jayne jumping in and out of the aether was somewhat on the - meh - side. Beyond wanting to put her fist through something at every turn, she seemed too typically "girlish". Emily and Sam were too much in the background. Jasper and Wildcat were as well. At first it seemed Wildcat was to have a larger role in watching over Mila, but that kinda fizzled out and nothing really bloomed. It was still an enjoyable story, just far weaker than those prior to this book. Several things wrapped up too neatly.
review 2: A great finale to the ... moreseries.The villain - The Machinist - is finally dispatched, despite the fact that he'd already died in Book 3. But there's this whole concept of the Aether - in one sense, it's this limbo land where the dead go; it's gray and wispy. But it's also a halfway station because there's another place to move on to. But the villains may linger here and continue to wreak havoc on the living, until our heroes come and send them onwards. I'm not so hot on this part, though I understand it's a great device for the author to add another book to the series. Otherwise, it's a good and satisfying ending to the series. With all the characters paired or matched up nicely.The part I like most has got to be of Mila and Jack Dandy. They're definitely my most favorite characters.And a good quote:"Bawling wasn't going to solve anything, couldn't accomplish anything. Crying was a waste of time and the last refuge of a desperate girl." less
