review 1: As again, Kaje Harper delivers another excellent story. I love the vet doctor aspect of the story, and Mike's relationship with Trevor. It felt real and was nicely explored. I liked the injection of vet issues, Trevor's dedication to his job and his relationship, and Mike's acceptance of what needs done if he wants to keep his relationship.Like all the other Kaje Harper stories I've read so far, this is one I'll be reading again.
review 2: 4 starsI always breathe a sigh of relief when I read a story by someone who can write professional prose. Kaje is a good writer, whether I happen to appreciate a specific plot line or not. Also, she is obviously familiar with veterinary practices -- she's used vets in at least three books that I know of, and she gets it mostl
... morey right -- and since that's a subject near and dear to me, that warms the tiny little cockles of my heart as well. Happy sigh. This is a sweet story about a young veterinarian who has moved from the city back to the tiny country town where he grew up, in order to take over his dead father's mixed (large and small) animal practice. He loves the town, but he misses his boyfriend back in the city and he doesn't feel that he can be open about his orientation in that conservative community. But on Christmas Eve he gets a couple of very pleasant surprises, one from his boyfriend and the other from the deacon of the community church. A nice read, if you're looking for some warm sentiment without too much sap. I'm giving it an extra 0.5 stars for getting the vet stuff right. :-) less
