review 1: I chose this book because of this sentence, "...she's on good terms with Death himself-who happens to look fantastic in jeans..." I knew when I picked this book up it was going to be another urban fantasy that most likely involved a love triangle (don't they all) and it did not disappoint. Alex Craft is a kick butt heroine, there's magic, PI work, you know, all the usual aspects of urban fantasy, but I really hoped the hot jean-clad Death would be an interesting difference from all the other UF. Anyway, it was a pretty good casual read, I look forward to the rest of the series.
review 2: I really wanted to love this book, but it fell a bit short of my expectations. You expect a flagship novel for a fledgling series to really give you a taste of the world, but a
... more lot of that detail was missing. The central mystery was kind of boring, and there weren't high enough stakes for the main character. Alex's steamy interludes with Fagin were well-written, but seemingly came out of left field, and ran counter to her entire personality. Death, as a character, was the one mystery in this book I would love to know more about, and I might read future titles to see how his storyline develops. less

Got a third of the way through before I decided it was too tedious to finish.

Overall a fun read with a few spaces of slow storytelling.
