review 1: In this one, even though it picks up where the first one left off, is like a step back in the relationship between Kitta and Nathanaial. It feels very weird that she keeps distrusting him and is cold toward his warmth for her. I guess it really does have a logical explanation since she does have the instincts of a cat. Though I have to say my cats loved my much quicker and for less of the things Nathanial did for Kitta, it is still strange when the most loving character is the vampire. There's a point where her constant distrust and fear of her own feelings gets a bit annoyingI really enjoyed this book, the adventure was thrilling and kept me on edge in various parts. The ending is a bit abrupt but opens the door for more.
review 2: Newly undead shifter-turned-
... morevampire Kita Nekai is coming to grips with the reality that her cat has not awakened since her change. What she needs is a little time to adjust to her new liquid diet and the increasingly complex attraction to her sire, Nathanial. What she gets is a headless harlequin. With the body count rising, Kita is dragged into a dangerous game of vampire politics. Her involvement draws the attention of an ancient vampire known as the Collector who has a penchant for acquiring the unusual - like a pureblood shifter-turned vampire. Kita still has unfinished business of her own and finds herself deeper in magical debt. It's a bad time to be a kitten who can't slip her skin. Kalayna Price's debut novel, ONCE BITTEN, earned rave reviews and reached #1 on Amazon.com's "Fantasy Bestseller List." TWICE DEAD returns readers to a dark, seductive world where magic rules and ancient loyalties collide with modern challengesMy review: it should actually be 4 1/2 stars..definitely better than the first installment, which was already good. Had to sleep late just so I could finish the book...it was that good. I just felt irritated with Kita sometimes. She's right to ask why she gets herself in to some of their situations...she can really be stubborn and she can't see how much Nathanial cares for her, how patient he has been with her. She could have avoided some of the things/situations if she could have been more honest with the Hermit or more trusting. I can understand that she blames him for her being turned to a vampire...but its over and done with. Take for example, she was asked by Nathanial to feed and she didn't and so Tatius had to force her and almost bound her to him. I don't know, maybe it's just me. Its a good thing that Nathanial learned to be insistent with her afterwards.Loved this and am excited to read the next installment....and the progress of Kita and Nathanial's relationship. less
