review 1: I haven't read the original book and I'm not planning on seeing the movie because it just reminds me too much of Twilight even if they aren't about the same things. I heard about the manga version and decided to check it out from the library. Being 43, I am not a fan of mushy teen dramas, but this wasn't too bad. It wasn't overboard on the teen angst and face sucking! That to me is truly amazing. It actually had a story! There was enough of a story for me to want to check out the next book in the series.
review 2: I've never read the text version of Beautiful Creatures. This graphic novel version is cute but not much more than standard YA supernatural/young-love. The art is manga style and decent enough. The characters seem a bit flat and the plot was too hu... morerried. I sometimes felt information was just thrown at the reader. However, getting the amount of material presented in the 500+ page text version into a manga version would be difficult and perhaps accounts for my criticisms. less
