review 1: I wish I could do half star ratings - 3 wasn't enough and 4 might be too much. A 0.99 pick from Amazon.Very fast chick lit story...although with reader questions in the back it may facilitate a good book club discussion/choice. Some plot weakness and character gaps a may turn some readers off, but I was able to relate/connect to a part of each female character which is why I liked it as much as I did.I would consider reading from this author again.
review 2: I enjoyed reading this book. Great literature? No. Deep philosophical impact? No. Fascinating character study? No. Enjoyable and affecting read? Absolutely!Generally, I found the characters to be more flesh and blood than one-dimensional -- they were a bit of a type, but then it was necessary to create the
... moretensions in the book. Not everyone was likable or even understandable -- which is what made them so believable. I wanted to find the book trite and pedestrian, but little things tugged at me -- descriptions of feelings or events were spot-on, and I knew exactly what the author was trying to convey. Sure, it reads a lot like a Lifetime movie (I understand it's been optioned, but I don't know by whom) but occasionally they are a reflection of life. Happiness is elusive and fleeting. We are not always in control of our lives, but we must find ways to see and cherish the moments that matter. We do learn so much about ourselves through others. It's okay to be gently reminded of all of these things. less

Slow-starting. A bit uneventful of a book. The only eventful topic that came about in the book was the main character's best friend finding out that she was terminally ill. I felt that the book captured a glimpse of the way the illness appears (sporadically and out-of-nowhere). Half way through reading this, I realized I must not know what this book was about or if it was "about" anything in particular at all. The turn of events (Roxanne discovering that she was in the final stages of pancreatic cancer) was like a bomb dropping on me. It was slightly left-field, however, I suppose that is pretty accurate reflected against reality. The ending was awful and abrupt. Most of the time while I was reading this book, I was reading to get through the book faster. It may not have been a bad choice to read, it just wasn't my type of book.

This novel is not exciting. It does not grip readers with suspenseful twists and turns in the plot. If you are looking for an intense story, this is not it. That being said, I enjoyed reading this story anyway. The author skillfully drew me in with characters that I could easily identify with. And even though nothing extraordinary occurred, I enjoyed reading about routine events in these engaging individuals' lives.

Tears at the end... I liked this story of friendship and fitting into a new family.
