review 1: A friend told me about this author and so this is the second book I've read by her. I liked the book. Hannah is a very kind character and really works to reach out to those around her. JT takes good care of his neighbors but is kind of grumpy. His like yet dislike for Hannah is over the top I think. Plus, Hannah's sudden interest in marriage to him comes a bit quickly. Finally, you have to realize that JT is kind of old fashioned and grouchy and judgmental. It's a tad annoying, but he eventually comes around, as happens in any romance. I like how Hannah helps Cordelia to transform her to a more secure person, although it kind of goes against the whole "beauty comes from the inside." However, it's nice to see a young love develop between Cordelia and her suitor. ... moreOh, and I just love Ezra! The friendship that develops between him and Hannah is so sweet, and she really helps him a lot. This is a Christian book and there are quite a few scripture references and references to God. It's a good Christian read, if you like that type of book.
review 2: I loved this book. The first Karen Witemeyer I have read. A wonderful story, great characters, great suspense, a lovely love story, a great witness to the work of God in our lives. "...hardships are sure to find their way to your doorstep. Confidence is the only way to combat them--confidence in yourself and in the God who equips you to overcome." (pg 15) "The deep melody of "Rock of Ages" moved through her like hot chocolate, warming her spirit and restoring her equilibrium. Jericho sat solid at her side, but there was another who offered an even greater security, and it was that reminder, more than the soothing hum of the music, that finally banished her fear." (pg 276)I will be reading more of Karen's work. less
