review 1: Are you looking for something sweet and wholesome? If so, look no further than Witemeyer's offering. I was definitely looking for something good. Good literature? Well, ... actually, something filled with goodness. I stumbled upon this on GR, found it in the Christian historical fiction section of my local bookstore, and wasn't disappointed. This isn't fraught with darkness and the conflict and trauma of the day, though it does deal with choice. The choice between right and wrong, with introspection into what is right and under what circumstances. Loyalty or betrayal? Generosity of spirit or greed? Additionally, while sweet, Witemeyer doesn't weave a tale that involves a wise man who needs to guide a somewhat misguided woman, as some Christian historical fiction ... moreauthors present. No. Interestingly, both Travis and Meredith are wise and strong, while both also have insecurities. In the end, each helps the other to grow as individuals, a couple, and Christians.
review 2: The minute I saw that this book was set in Palestine, Texas, where my mom was born, I knew I had to read it next. I enjoyed it so much! And Meredith was such a spunky Texas woman, going into a fenced place to warn someone of danger because it was the right thing to do, no matter the danger to herself. Each brother had such a strong, individual personality.I liked that both hero and heroine were already Christians, with growing to do that brought then closer to God and each other. Enjoyable and refreshing. less
