review 1: I received this book in exchange for an honest review.I started this book unaware that a prequel book "Taste" existed with these same characters. SAVOR works well as a a stand alone.I love that Dakota is true to herself. I love that she doesn't let what happened in her past define her. She accepts her scars as part of who she is. She is a little sassy and follows her passion and goes with it. Luka is complicated. Somewhat spoiled and secretive. His chemistry with Dakota was great but not over the top.The secondary characters are fantastic. I could visualize them easily and imagine hanging out with them. I enjoyed getting to know them and their little idiosyncrasies within their little "family" unit.Aside from some minor editing, this book was well written with a solid sto... morery. The paranormal element was very subtle. I am looking forward to the next installment. I will also be looking into "Taste" as well.
review 2: 3.5 starsI received a copy in exchange for an honest review. Our heroine Dakota is a college senior and a photography student with a natural talent despite having lost the use of one eye. The camera is an extension of her and photography is her passion. I liked how she spoke her mind and really went for what she wanted. She has a lot of confidence, despite wearing an eye patch and sometimes feeling like an outsider. However, the more we find out about Dakota the more unanswered questions we have. What happened to her eye, and how did she get her other scars? Why does she have the dreams she has?On an assignment for her school paper Dakota meet the band Vicious. Dakota wants them as photography subjects for her photography showcase which she needs to graduate. The only way they agree is if she agrees to spend a month with them at their compound / manor. Dakota is warned, “There will be nothing in the world of Vicious that you cannot unsee. Many can’t take the pressure. Many break.” We are left to wonder, what the heck is going to happen. This leads me to the only problem I had with the book. A lot happens, and we get to know the characters, but nothing happens that makes you think, “Now I understand the warnings.” True, there was something about this from the start that had me wondering what was really going on. Where we dealing with Vampires? The young, pale, flawless, and rich band members of Vicious were hard to figure out. But there were moments I would have to make a mental note of something; something that seemed out of place and might be explained later. But the explanations did not happen. That left me a little frustrated. I will note that the book Taste is sort of a prequel to Savor, but I was told I did not need to read it first. I plan to read it now to get a back story for some of the characters. For me, knowing the world this story takes place in would have been beneficial. But that is just me.This was my first Kate Evangelista book and I already wish the second book was available. I don't read a lot of paranormal romance but I do love a good bit of suspense in a story. She certainly brought on the suspense for me. And the last two chapters – Wow! I wish the story would have continued, but we have to wait until Relish is released. less
