review 1: This is just the cutest little quick series by the Klise sisters! Short, quick reads (great for reluctant readers) told through letters, newspaper clippings, transcripts, and other print media with artwork by one sister and text by the other. This format has worked well for the Klise sisters in the past as with their great "Regarding the ..." series of Regarding the Fountain fame. Humor both overt and sly abound--for example, all the names are clues to the person's character or occupation like Sue Perstisus as a superstitious person. The situation this time involves the threatened closing of the library, the importance of letters and personal relationships (as opposed to addiction to electronics), Olive's memories of an old friend, and another ghost.... more Fun!
review 2: Book 4 in the 43 Old Cemetery Road series. 4th grade and up for reading; younger for being read to. At one point in the book, all f's in the narrative are replaced by ph's, something younger children might not be able to deal with. Sal U. Tayshuns, the new Postmaster General, wants to get rid of letters and post offices and replace them with VEXT-mail, a computerized sort of hood and connects electronically with other VEXT-mail "veils." There are mixed reactions among the townspeople of Ghastly, IL, none more vehemently against the change than Sue Perstishus, Ghastly's postmaster, and Olive C. Spence, ghost in residence at 43 Old Cemetery Road. How will Olive, Ignatius, and Seymour deliver then next 3 chapters of their serial style book? And what about the phantom which haunts Box 5 at the post office?Seymour and his friend Wy Fye have to figure out the mysteries and find the answers. less
