review 1: Dying to Meet You Book Review by volley ball winner Have you ever known someone raised by a ghost? If you read this, you will know someone who has.The author, Kate Klise, lives in Illinois. Kate Klise and Sarah Klise first wrote a book when they were 10&11. Kate Klise's favorite book is Cold Sassy Tree by Oliver Burns.Dying To Meet You takes place in Chicago Illinois in fall, at a mansion.Ignias B. Grumply is really mean at the beginning, but at the end he is a little different. He doesn’t have any kids, he’s not married, and he hasn't written a book in 20 years. If he doesn't write another book, his career will die.Dying To Meet You is about a boy named Seymour who was abandoned before he could remember. So, instead of his parents, he was raised by a ghost named Olive ... moreC Spence. The parents had a ghost in the mansion and were scared. Seymour believed in ghosts so the parents thought he was a fool. They took off and left Seymour all alone with the ghost Olive C. Spence. But one day, a person named Ignais B. Grumply moved in the mansion with Olive and Seymour.I love that the whole book is letters and newspaper. I think that is a talented author. I also loved that there's not just two characters (Seymour and Olive C Spence the ghost) there's a lot of characters.I was not a huge fan of the house. It’s so big that it kind of gets confusing because it takes place in the house. Another thing I was not a fan of, was that the newspaper gave away things that the reader hasn't read yet. For example, in the book in the middle, the author has pictures and captions I did not know later in the book. I would recommend this book to a friend because if someone likes mysteries and loves to laugh then I would recommend this. If you like to write well, then thats great. One of the characters writes books, actually 2 characters write books. I would rate this book 4 stars. Will they write another book? Get comfy and READ READ READ!!!!!!!!!!!!
review 2: For a Middle Grade book, I absolutely loved it, I think more of an adult than I would have if I was younger. I enjoyed Klise's play on the names like Paige Turner or Ignatius Grumply. This is definitely a fun book for kids to read because of the story line. Seymour's parents abandoned him because they thought he was crazy. Olive, the ghost, is a protective mother-like figure to Seymour who wants to be a published author. Grumply reminds me of Scrooge, a miserable man who has a change of heart towards the end. Also, I liked how the book was written in a series of letters. I feel like this type of book hasn't been written in a long time, not well done anyway. In addition, I enjoyed how the story was about a failed writer who tried to escape his writer's block. The story was unique in its own way, especially that Grumply needed the help of Olive to change his ways. Seymour's character is interesting. He has his cat, Shadow, to comfort him since his parents abandoned him. Olive looks after the child, but she can only do so much. When his parents find out that Seymour is rich, they finally become interested in their son again. Only then does Seymour disowns his parents because he realizes that they only want him for his money, not because they love him. The three main characters were well developed, especially Grumply. Klise captures each character in a unique way. She gives them each a distinct voice, which is difficult to do many times. That is something that many writers struggle with, but Klise is exceptional to this. I look forward to continue reading the series! less
