review 1: Didn't like it as much as the second book. I found the main characters, Vix and Sabina, selfish and predictable. Of course, they were intended to be flawed but the characters and plot just weren't as exciting or interesting as Kate's other books. Plotina, the villain, lacked luster and wasn't nearly as interesting or evil as Lepida in Quinn's first book. I think that I'm just mad about the final scene but I don't want to spoil it for anyone...
review 2: For me this wasn't as good as he previous two books in this series. Did not find it well written or a riveting story although about half way through it did get a bit more interesting. What I found interesting was the way in which Hadrian was depicted. I had always understood that Trajan did indeed want him to ... morebe his heir and become Emperor after him. I found this to be the most interesting part of the book as I wanted to find out how this was accomplished. less
