review 1: This novel is fast-paced and I loved it being set in Ancient Rome. However, the antagonists are too easily portrayed as pure evil with no backstory as to why or how they became that way, which I always find too implausible and simple for my tastes. I prefer stories with more development of characters' personalities than just plots unfolding. I also detest incestuous relationships so I found myself wanting to skip some of the main plot points. I did like Thea and Arius, and wished I had gotten to read more about them.

Quinn tells a good story, and I found myself staying up late when I could to keep reading, pushing through and hoping that the characters I was rooting for would come out on top. less
