review 1: Kate Quinn's third Roman novel is just as good as the previous two. Quinn has a talent for weaving historical facts and fiction; her dialogue is witty and fluid while her descriptions are vivid and real. Her writing style relies more on dialogue than description but that keeps the novel flowing and entertaining. I really enjoyed reading about Sabina Vibia and her sister, Faustina. Titus and Vix were polar opposites and intriguing. The emperor Trajan came to life here, as did his heir, Hadrian. A very fun read!
review 2: This is another beautifully immersive world set in the world of ancient Rome, during Trajan's rule as emperor. I love, love, LOVE Kate Quinn's writing style, and I was so happy that she wrote another story set in this world. This one is about
... more an ex-gladiator and the emperor's niece, and all the political and martial events during the time period. Hadrian... I'm not sure how I feel about Hadrian, but I love the research the author obviously put into the historical characters. less

I thought I'd get into Sabina's story but nope. Started skimming after 1/4 or 1/3 of the way in.

Didn't quite measure up to the first two books.
