review 1: This book is about Philo Farnsworth and how he invented the first TV. The book goes through Philo's life starting with how he enjoyed to plow potato fields and then from there he made the connection and interests with electricity and machines to create the first TV image. The book starts off just talking about his interests in electricity and machines and then describes how he made the connection to actually invent the first TV. This book would be a good way to show students in the classroom that anything is possible because he was a young boy when he invented the TV so anything is possible. To use this in my classroom, I could have the students think of and create their own inventions. They could draw them and write why their inventions would be meaningful or helpful to t... morehe world and why they think that. (Biography NonFiction)
review 2: The boy who invented TV is an informative/biographical text of Phio Farnsworth, a potato farmer. We learn that Philo has a passion for machinery and technology. He won a contest sponsored by Science and Invention Magazine. We also learn that Philio became interested in the idea of "pictures that fly through the air" or television. As the story progresses Philo comes across his idea for inventing television while plowing. He finishes school first, goes to college, and raise the funds before pursing his interest. In 1927 Philo presents the first images on a tv to a small group of people. I did not find this book very engaging. I thought it was a very dry and slow read. I felt the amount of text could be intimidating to any student younger than third grade. If i were to use this text in my classroom it would be for a science unit that explores inventors. Not a must-have book by any means. less

It was cute. I enjoyed it. I just wish it had more of a story. It went by fast.
