review 1: Another reviewer summarized this book beautifully; a trash collector takes in abandoned females in China. Naturally, he struggles to provide for them but their home is filled with love and contentment. As he ages he finds it harder to provide for them. I found that this novel lacked an urgency to the narrative that make it difficult for me to want to pick up and read; it was more of stream-of-consciousness, which is kind of boring.
