Tales of the Scavenger's Daughters
review 1: This is book 2 in The Scavenger's Daughters series. Having it on my kindle (free) I read it immediately following reading the The Scavenger's Daughters, which was a "3" for me. So. Tangled Vines picked up right where the 1st ends, which, in my opinion, is good. It's evident that the author cares about her characters and it's easy to like the likeable ones and loathe the despicable ones. She writes new characters into the story seamlessly but very predictably. I found both books to be very predictable, and also was afraid that my kindle would stick to my hads, what with all the sap!! Even so, she is faithful to her storyline and although she is no Amy Tan, nor is she Danielle Steel. Somewhere in-between, maybe. If you are looking for something with depth, this is... more not the series for you. It's entertaining, though, and allows the reader to breathe.
review 2: I loved this book, I couldn't put it down!! It's the type of book where you can't wait to find out how it ends but you're sad when you get to the end because you want to keep on reading about the characters. The bad news is that this is the 2nd book in a trilogy. I wish it could be extended with a book about every girl that Benfu and Calla Lily have adopted. Kay Bratt has done such a wonderful job of expanding Linnea's character in Tangled Vines. She shows the love that these girls have for their adoptive parents. As a grandmother of two precious girls from China and a 3rd one soon to come, I love these books that give deeper understanding of the Chinese culture and how it affects these children. Keep it up Kay, I can't wait for the next book. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. less
