review 1: If you ever secretly craved going back to the arts and crafts classes you had as a child, then you'll like this book. Techniques are pretty simple and step-by-step diagrams accompany most projects. Childish art attempts are now "creative endeavors" and artistic outlets, but if you're like me, deep inside you just like having fun with paint, glue and the x-acto knives they wouldn't let us use as kids!Making notebooks out of old cereal boxes and scratch paper, paper chains, and even jewelry are some of the fun projects.I read this book the same weekend as I read a Martha Stewart crafts book, and both books were photographed well, had great page layouts, but this book felt more friendly.Definitely worth a look though for inspiration, but I'm putting it on my "To Buy" list. It... more was just too much fun! Sadly the reason it is on my "To Buy" list may be twofold: my dog liked the book to much he chewed out a good corner of the library book! I may have to buy a replacement book for the library LOL
review 2: I nabbed this one off the "new books" shelf at my library and fell in love! I adore paper crafts and upcycling, and this book gives me lots of new ideas for what to do with my hoard of pretty paper scraps, colored cardstock, empty containers, and things I hadn't thought of such as old hardcover books!As a public librarian, the book-related crafts have me thinking, oooh, bookcrafts--things to do with damaged books that can't be resold, or are too old to be useful but still have good bindings. (Though it might give patrons bad ideas about what to do with current library books...) less
