review 1: I'm getting increasingly bothered by the sampling of elements from other fantasy tales. Maybe younger readers won't notice or mind as much, but it's a bit more than getting inspired by! There are the obvious borrowings from Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter. This latest Harry Potter chess game at the end thing irked me. And who knows what other references to fantasy, japanese anime, and other genres that I'm not even seeing...But alas, I will press on and keep reading, because I *do* want to find out what happens to Emily & the ever-growing rag-tag crew.
review 2: Wooooahhh..a dark twist is coming into the "Amulet" world and I love it! The illustrations are gorgeous and crazy stuff starts happening in this volume. I would have to say that this on
... moree is the most intriguing of the five volumes that I've read. There is betrayal and competition and even though I'm sure I'm far too old for this book I still really enjoyed it. Now I just have to find something similar in Young Adult format at my library. I honestly thought that the series was going to end in volume five and that was definitely NOT TRUE...so now I am patiently awaiting the arrival of volume 6. less
