review 1: Every time these books start to show improvement, the next volume manages to dash all those rising hopes. How is it possible that this one is the worst yet? The pacing in this volume was absolutely terrible - characters jumped from dramatic moment to dramatic moment with very little linking them, and rather than pursuing character development for the existing cast, the author once again introduces another set of new folks for the readers to attempt forming a connection with. Max's storyline, like that of Trellis's brother in an earlier installment, made absolutely no sense in the context of his previous actions. Navin's status as "Commander" is ludicrous and even less deserved than Emily's stonekeeper skills: he skips and fails his classes and is constantly saved by those ... morearound him, while somehow being sold as a competent pilot and hero. There's a certain suspension of disbelief involved in stories where kids are the heroes, but there isn't even to grab onto to make this possible. I'm continually exasperated by how quickly characters' roles shift to fit the plot, a plot which changes at its author's whim, following no logical progression that I can find. I don't know why I'm even bothering to continue reading these books, other than the fact that I hate to leave things unfinished. This series is, overall, really not worth the effort.
review 2: This book is about a group of friends that have amulets that allows them to have powers.And the main character Emily and her friends have to help to destroy the elf king. But it all goes wrong when they realize that the elf king is stronger than They thought will they be able to destroy the elf king read to find out.I think This book is the best in series It has the most action and it wasn't too hard to follow the story line And just had a really good ending. less
