review 1: I felt the abundant book references were to much, they distracted from the story. While most references were positive for other authors I found the one for "Fifty Shades..." offensive and unprofessional. Regardless how you feel about someone's work, as an author, you should not trash it in your own body of work. If you were writing a review of the book that would be acceptable, but the manner in which it was done really was unethical and added no value to the story. As for the rest of the book, it felt slow moving to me. I liked Alex and Leo but we were also introduced to several other secondary characters that seemed to get a lot of air time. This is a series so in sure the author was attempting to set us up for future books. Don't get me wrong, the secondary characters a... morere very interesting, they just seemed to detract from the main story a little. There is a lot of sex, I mean a ton of sex in this book. I'm not complaining *eyebrow waggle*. Overall, it was a nice read. It was missing the special oomph needed to push it to four stars for me. I didn't laugh, cry, scream, threaten my kindle… you get the point.
review 2: Meh. The writing was not very good, there were some grammatical errors & just plain awkward sentences. The lazy overuse of the same words over & over. Gah! But my biggest problems with this book was the lack of development in some of the characters & the contrived drama that lead to the big conflict. Alex isn't comfortable in his own home & doesn't get along with his family, but we aren't told or shown why until the end of the book. It got annoying. He kept saying how much he hated being at home, how they treated him, & wanted to save $ to move out cuz it was just unbearable, but all we are shown is Alex is routinely ignored by his parents although his brother was a douche, he didn't seem that scary. Alex thinks about saving $ to move out, but that's it, he never takes any action on it & we are left not knowing how close he is to saving enough. The jealous character's actions seem like an after thought to create some drama for the main characters to work though. But he is never fully developed & his motivation for meddling in their relationship never made any real sense. This book seemed like a first time author's first draft & could have benefited from some tight editing & constructive criticism. less
