review 1: At first, I liked the book. It reminded me of a grown up Harry Potter. But then about a third of the way through it was like a switch was flipped, and things got very dark. And while Harry Potter got dark as well, it was a gradual process over the course of seven books. The Accidental Sorcerer just felt bipolar. I was looking for something light and fun, and this is not what I bargained for. I will not be reading the rest of the series.
review 2: I picked this up sort of by accident (I was headed to lunch on my own and I decided I didn't really like the book I'd brought with me. Luckily, there was a Barnes & Nobel nearby)I'm so glad I did! I've always liked the covers of Karen Miller's other books* but they've never really interested me. This is more my li... morene- silly, fun, fast-paced but there's a real heart in it. The last quarter gets a bit more serious than I think the overall tone prepared me for and the surprise twist wasn't but there's a chance it wasn't really supposed to be a surprise to the reader. Anyway- I recommend this for those of us who like our heroes more pro- than anti-.*Silly? Yes. I don't care. less
