review 1: This book is about two little birds in winter that fly all around and realize that no two things in this world are exactly the same, even if they are the same type of leaf or animal. This book is wonderful for showing younger students that nothing in this world is exactly the same. In turn, you can teach the students that life is better that way because not only does it add more variety to our lives, but it also makes everything on this planet unique. Being unique is especially important among organisms, whether they are plants, animals, or humans. Being unique and diverse lets us learn more about one another, and it makes life a more wonderful experience. You could also have a lesson with students where you have two leaves and you could have them come up to the leaves a... morend see that even though they are the same kind of leaf, that they are still not 100% identical. Reading this book to younger students will also benefit them as they are learning how to read because there are rhymes throughout this entire book. With this book you could also teach students about friendship because even though the book isn’t written about that, the illustrations show two red birds going about their adventure through the forest together as they see no two things are alike. I really like the illustrations in this book as well because they take up the entire page and are also very colorful. The medium I believe that is used for the illustrations in this book is pastels.
review 2: My newly-five-year-old son picked this book out from our local library last week. So far, this is my favorite Keith Baker book. The text is simple, but effective. The rhyming scheme works without feeling forced. And that's not the best part. The best part of this book is the artwork. The cover is gorgeous and hints at the delightfulness and humor contained within the book. Every page is absolutely breathtakingly lovely. And a few are sweetly funny. I adore the illustrations. (Actual rating: 4.5 stars -- 4 for the text, 5 for the illustration. I round up.) less
