review 1: A suspenseful romance about making yourself who you are, family, overcoming fear, justice, and finding out who you are. Cool and remote at first, Victoria undergoes a big personality change, becoming more open and vulnerable because of love -- I’m conflicted about how much she changes. Seth, though he did the responsible thing 20 years ago, now expects Victoria to trust him to put her first right away. Their relationship feels underdeveloped. The plot doesn’t have a lot of investigation or suspense.
review 2: The story line was nicely complex with layers of past and present coming together to paint a bizarre life. Unfortunately, I did not care much for the romance element of the novel. While I very much liked the professional side of Dr. Victoria Peres, she
... more seemed way too opposite in her personal relationship with her old flame, Dr Seth Rutledge. I preferred the caring side presented in her relationships with teenager Trinity, Trinity's foster mom, and her elderly gay neighbor. The ending bothered me a bit because the teens, Jason in particular, should in reality have needed PTSD therapy, not gone happily to live with the mother that left him with a psychopathic father. I liked the earlier books better. less
