review 1: Caitlyn Whelan has finally made contact with her sister, Shanna, after years of estrangement. When she visits Shanna, Cait learns of the existence of vampires and shifters when she meets her sister's new "family" at Romatech. Carlos Panterra is a were-panther who works as security at Romatech. When he meets Caitlyn, he is immediately attracted to her, but knows he is under an obligation to find a mate to perpetuate his race which is close to extinction. Caitlyn doesn't care. She knows Carlos is the guy for her and will fight for him.This book is part of Sparks' Love at Stake series. If you've been reading the series up to this point, you know that these are light-weight paranormal romances with a lot of humor. Both the hero and heroine are very likeable and have good chemi... morestry. The story has Carlos and Caitlyn traveling to Thailand trying to find more were-panthers. Of course, as in all of the books in the series, nothing goes as planned. My rating: 4 Stars.
review 2: I read books 5-11 of this series over the course of two weeks, so they blend together in my head. All of the books are paranormal romance with some mystery elements. The good thing about this series is that the author varies her romance formula more than most. Another good thing: good guys almost never die. (It's not an urban fantasy, despite the contemporary urban settings.) Worst thing about this series is the silly too-cute book titles. The writing is much better than the titles suggest, and the stories are not rip-offs of popular contemporary books.Shanna was the heroine of book 1 in this series. This book is about her sister Caitlyn (a psychic linguist) and were-panther shifter Carlos. The twist in this story is that Caitlyn does the majority of the pursuing in the relationship. Carlos has to train Caitlyn in self defense before he's allowed to go on a trip to try to find more of his endangered species, and hopefully, a mate. He's attracted to Caitlyn, but refused to bite anyone to transform them because of the danger of killing them. Caitlyn has an affinity for mammals - they are attracted to her and she can communicate with them, and can speak and understand any language after a couple hours of hearing it. She was previously in the state department and lived all over the world, so she talks Angus, Carlos's boss, into sending her on Carlos's mission to find were-panthers. Good thing, too, because they come across the acolytes of Master Han, a bad vampire. less
