Love at Stake
review 1: After three former employees lodge complaints against Nightclub owner Vanda Barkowski, she is sentenced to an anger management class. With no one volunteering to be her sponser, Phil Jones steps forward to take the job. Phil has had feelings for Vanda for years, but couldn't act on them since he was her guard. He knows she is attracted to him, but also knows that she thinks he is a human. How will she react when she finds out he is a werewolf? Will he be able to keep her safe from rogue vampires who want to kill her?Another great installment in Sparks' Love at Stake series. I've been waiting for Phil's story for a while and wasn't disappointed. If you like your vampire stories light and funny, this is a good series. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
review 2: Vanda Barkows
... moreki is one of the original harem vampires. She was a big part of book 2 and the dating reality game. Now she owns a vampire nightclub with Cora Lee and Pamela. But she has some legal problems. She is being sued by several former employees and Roman sentences her to anger management classes. Phil Jones becomes her sponsor. He is an alpha werewolf who used to be a day guard for the harem. They like each other, but don't want to admit it.Vanda was turned by a Malcontent during WWII. She spent quite a bit of time killing Nazis. Malcontents sent werewolves to kill her and other resistance leaders. Vanda has a huge fear of wolves and does not know that Phil is one. Sigismund is the vampire who turned Vanda and her sister Marta. Other characters who show up: Phil's sister Brynley and a group of exiled young potential alphas she is helping. less

I read books 5-11 of this series over the course of two weeks, so they blend together in my head. All of the books are paranormal romance with some mystery elements. The good thing about this series is that the author varies her romance formula more than most. Another good thing: good guys almost never die. (It's not an urban fantasy, despite the contemporary urban settings.) Worst thing about this series is the silly too-cute book titles. The writing is much better than the titles suggest, and the stories are not rip-offs of popular contemporary books. This one is about purple-haired vampire Vanda Barkowski (former NYC coven harem member)and wolf-shifter Phil getting together. It includes a huge amount of backstory for both Vanda and Phil, as well as fighting a malcontent (bad vamp) that has it out for Vanda.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.5 stars... I loved this book! It had earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
