Dan Shamble, Zombie PI
review 1: I admit, I only started reading this because it was a Free Friday selection for my Nook, but I'm soooo glad I did. If you're looking for something light and just a little bit silly, this is for you. It's set in a New Orleans where 1 out of every 75 deaths results in "reanimation," where zombies, witches, werewolves and vampires (all loosely grouped together as "unnaturals") share space with those of us who aren't any of those things. Dan "Shambles" Chambeaux is a private investigator trying to solve his own murder and that of his girlfriend - all while tending to his (un)usual caseload. This book is just plain fun, and I'm looking forward to reading the other offerings in this series - as soon as possible!
review 2: Zombies are taking over our thinking--movies,
... more TV, CDC fact sheets, Jane Austen--so it's not surprising that we have a zombie P.I., Dan Chambeaux (aka Dan Shambles).Kevin J. Anderson has rendered a pleasant cast of human and monster characters, starting with the modest Dan and including Dan's oldest friend, a trash-taking cop who is always ready with a terrible joke about the Unnaturals. Dan also has a human lawyer partner, a feisty woman intent on helping Unnaturals get basic civil rights.Quick read. Well-handled plot lines--including solving Dan's own murder and that of his ghost receptionist, who once might have evolved into his girlfriend. (They've still got a noncorporeal thing going.)I'm happy to have a string of others in the series to zip through. less

A very fun concept. A zombie PI in the Big Uneasy. Enjoyed this first story very much.
