review 1: Kim Fielding is quickly becoming a must read author for me. I love her descriptive storytelling ability and she always writes characters that really live and breathe off of the written page.Reece is a scrooge if I’ve ever read one. He hates Christmas and sees it at nothing but a commercialized holiday. When his sister asks (okay, bribes) him to stand in line overnight at a local toy store so his nephew can get the hottest toy, Daredevil Danny, he reluctantly does so. After hours of standing in line, when the doors of the toy store finally open, he trips and is practically trampled by other shoppers rushing to get in.It’s then that Reece meets Angel. Angel is the assistant manager of the store and goes out of his way to help Reece with his wounds. As they talk, sparks f... morely between them, despite the fact that they are completely opposite AND both men have total different viewpoints of what Christmas is really about. Reece finds himself captivated by Angel, and he agrees to meet with Angel on Christmas Eve, so Angel can show Reece the meaning of Christmas. Will Reece finally see what Christmas is all about? Will he take a chance with Angel and maybe find the one person who is meant for him?I really loved this story. I enjoyed it so much; I wish it had been longer. Just when I really got into it, it was over, so I hope one day Ms. Fielding will revisit these characters. Reece was a harder character to like. He’s very serious and doesn’t really appreciate what he has. When he meets Angel, he’s shown a different side of things allowing him to really take a long, good look at himself.Angel was my favorite character. He’s smart, bubbly and just all around adorable. I liked his zest for life and his determination to help others. I also thought he’d be perfect for Reece because he could make Reece lighten up a little bit and enjoy life.Joys R Us really captured the spirit of the season. It’s sweet and the message it gives makes this one of my favorite holiday books I’ve read this year. If you are looking for a book with a strong seasonal message, then Joys R Us is definitely a book you should consider.Recommended!
review 2: I'm not sure why this short holiday story didn't get higher ratings. Honestly, it was a perfect holiday read in my opinion and I almost gave it 5 stars which is hard for a short story to get from me. The reason that I loved it is that I read holiday shorts to get me in the Christmas spirit, and this short did exactly that. Angel and Reese meet when Reese is trying to get a very hard to come by toy for his nephew for the season. Angel decides to take the slightly Scrooge-y man under his wing for the holidays and try to show him the real meaning of Christmas. While this story had an HFN and not an HEA, I was perfectly alright with that because I felt all the promise that was left unsaid. I would say the last page or so really was my favorite part of the book and I finished with a little smile and a happy sigh. less
