review 1: 3.85 stars rounded up. I very much enjoyed reading the vivid descriptions of Venice, especially from an ordinary traveller's point of view, how Jeff evolved emotionally, the support of his mother, the subtle mystery around Cleve. However, I found the romance to be somewhat lacking in substance, unless one believes it is possible to fall in love very quickly with someone who has been at least partially dishonest the whole time. And I am not sure what role Jeff's nightmares played, since he did not seem to reconcile with the most painful part of his past.
review 2: ebook. I could relate a bit to the main character. Because if I was left with a paid vacation that I was supposed to have taken with my partner and now they are splitsville, I sure as hell would still ... morego on the vacation. And probably also be in a frame of mind to get involved with the first good looker that crossed my path. I don't think I would get as involved as these two get, but then my life isn't anywhere as exciting as this story is. Bonus points for being set in a city I have always been interested in and intend to visit someday. less
