review 1: A Simple and Essential Guide That Covers the Fundamentals …This book was reviewed as part of Amazon's Vine program which included a free advance copy of the book. Our family of 4 (with two daughters aged 6 and 3) visited Disney World (Orlando, FL) in July 2011 and are heading back the first week of January 2013. We exclusively used a travel agent to assist in planning our first trip and while we had a blast, we felt like we missed several experiences for the kids unnecessarily (although I’m sure everyone feels this way when they return). While the lessons learned from the previous trip were essential in preparing us for planning this upcoming trip, the FODOR’S WALT DISNEY WORLD WITH KIDS 2013 actually educated us enough to plan our trip more effectively.FODOR’S DI... moreSNEY WORLD WITH KIDS serves as a nicely organized and fairly thorough quick-hit reference guide that answers the questions most parents need answered to make informed decisions about everything from accommodations, restaurants, rides and attractions. - The book’s coverage is broad, but specific. Chapters are designated to each of the major venues of Orlando’s “Disneyscape” (Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and the 2 waterparks, etc.), peripheral attractions (Downtown Disney, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld, Islands of Adventure) and even Disney Cruise Lines. - Maps: A convenient and simplified overview map of each venue is provided at the beginning of the chapters.- Reference Tables (plenty of them): Provide handy at-a-glance information on the rides and restaurants for each of the major Disney sites (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, nearby Disney hotels, etc.). Price ranges for restaurants and height requirements for certain rides certainly help in the planning process.- Easily identifiable icons draw attention to specific, helpful information: insider tips, helpful hints, money/time saving tips, ride “scare factors” and Hidden Mickeys (various forms of Mickey Mouse images that are “hidden in plain sight” throughout Disney World).- The book does a good job in steering rides and attractions to kids in certain age groups rather than “lumping” them into one group. Information aimed at kids is presented in more of a caution-oriented and suggestive manner, not pushy or fear-inducing. - I found the summaries of the major attractions to be very descriptive, tantalizing and accurate.Overall, I found the FODOR’S WALT DISNEY WORLD WITH KIDS 2013 to be an excellent and informative trip-planning tool. While I am a Disney World “veteran”, I still learned some new things from the guide, like the Hidden Mickeys and Disney’s “parent swap” method allows parents to test the suitability of a ride for their children. Additionally, I like the attention the book gives to Downtown Disney and some of the more obscure areas in the complex. While I wished the book had pictures to identify rides and attractions throughout, I don’t feel it tarnishes the overall effectiveness of the book. I was also surprised more attention wasn’t given to one of Disney’s most effective offerings: Fast Pass. Regardless, this guide was certainly an asset in preparing for our upcoming trip and we will definitely be using it throughout our visit.
review 2: I'm not going to give ratings to these books, but I am going to keep track of which ones I read. This one was my favorite to read, which is funny because it is geared to families with kids. But I found the information so much more informative, since the author was going out of their way to explain why rides might be too scary for kids and when certain attractions are crowded because of the swarm of kids. So now I know that I want to hit up those scary rides, and avoid those other attractions! =)PLUS, I finally got an in-depth guide to Universal Studios! less

Less scientific than the unofficial guide but it had some unique tips and ideas.
