review 1: I am usually not a reader of short stories, but this one caught my eye because some of my favorite authors wrote stories for this anthology. I enjoyed the historical setting where each story at some point took place in Grand Central Station all on the same day right after the war was over. It also introduced me to other authors I will now read. You can read as many or as few of the stories you like. I recommend it for something a little different.
review 2: I was going to give this three stars and then I realised how unfair I was being on most of the authors. There are ten stories in this collection, each by a different writer; three are really excellent, three are very good, three are good--and one is an absolute turkey. (No, I'm not going to say which one).... more It was because of the turkey--a story a 12 year old would have regretted writing once s/he reached 13--that I was knocking off a star and that would not have given a balanced picture of the whole book. So read it--you'll know the turkey when you get to it but you'll have read a number of the stories by then and you'll also know you're into something satisfying. less
