review 1: Reading this made me come to certain political understandings. I know the author was coming from another point of view when he wrote it...much different times. But the realities of today's health care issues...this just reminded me of how so many veterans have recently died at the VA hospitals and how government getting involved in our health care is the wrong solution. This book smacked of the "death panel" discussion that politician are dancing around in regards to government run health care.
review 2: I recently picked up this short story on my own despite a deep prejudice towards Vonnegut for being a high school 'required reading' person. Boy was I glad I did.The story is drab, the future is bleak, the people are disillusioned. Fine and well. What carried th
... moree story, and vaulted it into my few favorites, was the prose. Vonnegut uses a certain bluntness that thrusts you into this world. He brings a levity which contrasts with the world in such a way that heightens the atmosphere. His sardonic tone made everything palatable and made me enjoy the story in an unexpected way.Needless to say, I enjoyed it greatly. If you're looking for a short glimpse into a futuristic world that will leave a lasting impression, this is it. less
