review 1: So, This was a 2.5 rounded up to three. It didn't have me on the edge of my seat. But I did want to know how it ended. It was confusing at parts, with the switching back and forth between the two MC's. Plus, if you are unfamiliar with military chain of command(ranking system) it can be confusing as well. But overall you got the gist of the story. Eric is a police officer for the Navy. He isn't an officer yet, but on his way up the ranks to becoming one. Shane is already an officer in the Navy, but a different department. Since their ranks are not equal(Eric isn't an officer) their relationship is forbidden under military law.So, the story is about them meeting by chance and watching their relationship grow to love. The fact that they are gay isn't the biggest issue... more, not unlawful, just frown upon by people who aren't open to the idea. The problem is trying to keep relationship a secret from their commanding officers. If they are found out, out goes their careers and good-bye retirement. They are both dads. This story is also about them being away from their children and how being in the military affects their relationship's with them or lack of having one at all. There was a epilogue. I felt it was lacking a lot. I didn't even view it as one. It didn't wrap up what I wanted to see. What do their military colleagues think of their relationship when it is found out? How do their families(children especially) come together? Do they get to retire together? Where do they end up living together? Will it be close to either of their children? I wanted to see more of the 'there after'.
review 2: I really wanted to get into the story of Eric and Shane, and my subjective rating teetered between three stars and four stars.Eventually, I settled on three stars.I liked the characters of Eric and Shane. The author did a marvelous job of setting up how these characters meet, the problems they have as they date, but the scenery of Okinawa overtook the book, and at times muted the conflict and problems that both these characters had in a post "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" world. Also, having been in the military myself, I'm not sure if we need to know all the details, or intricacies of military life, as sometimes I felt those details, which seeped into the story, distracted. This book pales in comparison to the book I've read most recently of hers, "After the Fall." (See my other review).I only wished that this book was more like "After the Fall." Definitely NSFW for male-male sex scenes. If you like military men, like the details of military life, and love Okinawa, then this book is for you. less

The only problem with this book is that it doesn't have a sequel. I want more of Eric and Shane!
