review 1: I've recently discovered that when it comes to Lacey Weatherford's books they will all be a hit with me. Her books take the reader on a journey to another place and time. She has a way of telling the story in a manner that you get so lost in it that you can't see anything but the story. The only question I ever have when reading her books is how consuming is the book gonna be? This book is my all time favorite by Lacey. This is probably because it's paranormal ( which is my most favorite genre) and I got lost in this story.Vance is 18 years old and a very powerful Warlock. Exactly how powerful I'm not sure anyone really knows the answer to that. He's on the run from his father. After two years the girl he has watched from afar is finally going to be 16 and find out... more that she's a witch. He's been drawn to her from the minute he saw her even though they have never spoken which makes it that much harder because he knows she has a crush on him. Portia just turned 16 and her life has changed forever. She finds out that she's a witch and her Grandma and dad are powerful Coven leaders. Not only that but Vance the boy she's been crushing on for two years feels the same pull as her and happens to be part of her Coven. It also appears that Portia is also a powerful witch. How powerful we don't know since she is just learning but she's capable of doing things that others can't and she adjusts easily to being a witch.Vance and Portia are connected in a way that everyone dreams of. Their love for one another is so strong. They make a promise to one another that you will have to read. It was beautiful. They would do anything to save each other and that is shown in such a way that I cried.I love the whole witch storyline. Lacey took a different approach on the dark magic portion of the story to me. I really enjoyed learning how they would change if they got into the dark side of their magic. I will admit to being curious about what Vance's dad might have been up to. We got to see a lot with Portia learning about using her powers and I look forward to seeing more. I hope that we learn more about what Vance is capable of doing in the future books.Thank you so much for such a wonderful read. You never disappoint me. I look forward to seeing what happens next for these two and their friends. A definite must read for all book lovers out there.
review 2: This was a very interesting and exciting start to a series that promises to be filled with plenty of magic and mayhem. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters; especially, Vance. He is just so gorgeous, and even though he looked the Bay Boy part with his motorcycle and leather jacket, he proved that chivalry is most certainly not dead. His relationship with Portia was sweet, and the fact that his moral compass pointed in the right direction only made me like him so much more.I was a little surprised that there wasn’t more conflict when it came to their relationship. What I mean by this, is that even with the knowledge that Vance was in hiding from his evil father, Portia’s family accepted their relationship without any worries. I would have expected them to flip out a bit more, especially with how quickly they transitioned from complete strangers to being in love. And Portia’s father acted so casual when he found out about their binding ceremony. Of course, Vance and Portia had plenty of other conflict plaguing their relationship, but the final moments in this story only affirmed how strong their love for each other was, and I knew they could get through just about anything; even a near demon conversion.Weatherford has created amazing characters with plenty of heart and emotion. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series. less
