review 1: Okay, so I'm having a hard time sharing about this book. It was a bit too long, and there seemed to be too much detail, and it sort of dragged on at the start. Lael seemed very immature, but then again, she was only 14. Her earliest suitor was an ancient TWENTY to her 14! I don't know that she really ever LOVED him; he really liked her a lot, but I think that there was just an assumption that they'd eventually marry. However, of course, he wound up being a total jerk, yet she still pined for him for a bit, here and there. Then, there was Captain Jack, the white man turned Shawnee (or was it Cherokee?). I think that HE was 15 years older, although the reader never learns. Now, that relationship seemed a bit more lustful than the other. CJ sounded pretty cute and all, but it... more was just plain WEIRD. The hero enters halfway through the book, FINALLY. I kept waiting and wonderful when he would be introduced. Of course, all's well that ends well, but Lara Frantz's books seem to be a bit depressing, with people dying here and there, and true love always skirting just out of sight for a month, or a year, or several years, depending upon which book you are reading. This was not even close to the first two books in the Ballantyne Legacy series, but I suppose, since I have family living in Kentucky, it was pretty interesting to learn some history and all.
review 2: Lael Click grows up on the Kentucke frontier in 1777 in the shadow of her frontier father who was abducted by the Shawnee Indians for years. She is sent away to become civilized, but is drawn by her wild upbringing and eventually returns, where she discovers physical and spiritual healing. This was a long, winding story. Ma Horn and Captain Jack were both fascinating characters. I liked the parts with the doctor Ian Justus and his faith. It truly sounds like a hard life. less

I really enjoyed this book...a lot! If you enjoy good Christian romance, this is a must read.

Liked the book well enough - though at times the story got bogged down.
