review 1: I love, love, love, love the way Lauren Groff writes. Her prose is absolutely beautiful without being overbearing or flowery or pompous. Sometimes I read certain lines that she writes over and over again because they are so beautiful that I just need to take a moment to let the aesthetics of what she is saying sink into my brain. That being said there some really wonderful stories in this book, my favorites being "Lucky Chow Fun" and "Delicate Edible Birds". I think charachter development is one of the most difficult things to accomplish in the realm of short story writing, and I feel like with each of these stories Groff really created the characters well, giving them shape with her beautiful prose. I feel like it's really difficult to accutately rate a short story c... moreollection, because I feel like I want to rate all the stories individually, and that it's not necessarily fair to lump all the sotries together when some are clearly 5 stars, and others only 2 or 3. Overall though I really enjoyed this collection and look forward to reading more from this author!
review 2: I listened to this collection stories on audio book, mostly while walking a 3mile walk to school each morning, and it really enchanted me and transported me, making dreary winter Brooklyn much more magical and serene. The first three stories were definitely my favorites, with "L. DeBard and Aliette" being one of the more emotionally gripping stories I've ever "read." I thought the collection lost momentum over time and, unlike others, I did not love the title story. In many of these later stories I thought Groff sort of fell to her comfort zone of emotionally unavailable sexually charged women, a compulsion which I think has detracted from both _Arcadia_ and _Monsters of Templeton_ as well. Still, highly recommended. less

Good but not not great. I really enjoyed some of the stories, but others fell flat.
