review 1: I thought this novel would be a discourse on what it means to be human. Not really a spoiler—it’s in the dust jacket—a human/bonobo girl is taken to the US to be raised. Instead of that examination of human nature, it becomes a story of how she learns to become an American teenager—shopping, smart phones, etc. The adults act like idiots, the children wise way beyond their years. Then it becomes a thriller (chased by government agents, etc) that isn’t very thrilling.
