review 1: I would do 3.5 stars if that were an option. Great historical fiction novel that grabbed my attention right away. A little slow in the middle and I was surprised by all the Christian aspects later on in the book. That wasn't a detriment, I just didn't realize this was a religious author/book when I started reading it. I liked the intrigue and especially the questions surrounding Dominick that weren't fully explained until late in the book. I would recommend this if you like christian literature and historical fiction.
review 2: I enjoyed this story set in the early 1800s when England and American tensions were high and war was threatened. Some interesting historical perspectives on the relationship between the two countries. Also great insights into the life of
... more a young unmarried midwife, Tabitha, whose story this really is. It has something of 'Call the Midwife' about it, and this aspect is well written, with Tabitha being a great character. The romance is a love triangle, which is quite satisfying but which dragged and circled a bit. I thought the novel would have been better a little shorter as the conclusion was a bit long in coming. Overall, an enjoyable read. less

The story seemed to drag quite a bit. That's why I gave it 3 stars.
