review 1: Laurie Alice Eakes just keeps out doing herself. Her latest and final book in her Midwives series is brilliant. I love a story where I don't know in the first chapter who our heroine will end up with and Ms. Eakes pulls it off in Choices of the Heart. Her descriptions as always are wonderful and vivid allowing you to see the story play out around you. Not only her hero and heroine are well fleshed out but so are her secondary characters. Laurie Alice Eakes in my opinion is on her way to the top of the charts. Just when I think she can't write any better she has another book out there that blows me away. This story has so much to offer, romance, rivalry, mystery, feuds, midwifery, family, oh my goodness the list is fabulous. I highly recommend Choices of the H... moreeart!
review 2: Romance, drama, mystery - "Choices of the Heart" has all these elements plus an inspirational message of forgiveness. This is the third book in Laurie Alice Eakes' Midwives series, but I was easily able to delve into the story without having read the previous two books. I enjoyed the complex relationship between the characters, and the mountain setting of Virigina were intriguing. Eakes also does a fantastic job of presenting the complicated aspects of family feuding that took place (and still takes place) in the back-hill country.I also enjoyed reading about the midwife skills that character Esther employed, and how her healing skills not only were used for medical purposes, but to heal family ties as well. Eakes does a brilliant job of telling this part of the story.I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys historical fiction, inspirational fiction and gentle romance. less

Good story, a tad contrived at times, but overall good.
