review 1: I enjoyed this book more than the first in the series. I think mostly because I loved the hero. I wanted to rap the heroine on the head through most of the story though. :) I was completely and utterly confused with the ending as well...I read it several times...trying to make sense of it...but still felt like I missed something. BUT...they still got their happily ever after so I was surprisingly okay with being clueless. :) Can't wait to read book 3.
review 2: Laurie Alice Eakes does it again! A great story with charming characters and enough mystery to keep you turning pages. Eakes is a wonderful writer...you get sucked in without being distracted by poorly constructed sentences or awkward word choice. I also gave it four stars because it's set in a refreshin
... moreg time period for Christian fiction. Love the regency setting!!! I get rather tired of all the Amish and westerns on the Christian fiction market...Laurie is a nice change. You can tell she enjoys writing this genre because she gives you just the right level of detail about the clothing or architecture or chemical compositions used in early aeronautics without feeling like she is writing a report or a list of things she researched. Very well done. Only a few things kept me from giving it 5 stars: #1: for all the talk of redemption and God's love, Jesus is never mentioned. It is only though Jesus that we know of God's love for us, it's only though his substitutional atonement in his life, death, and resurrection that we can be acceptable to God. Don't forget that someone had to pay the price for us to be forgiven and that someone is God himself!! Amazingly loving. Diminishing this makes God seem smaller than he is...tell the whole story--it's glorious!!! #2: after awhile the whole back and forth got a bit tiring. No spoilers but it seemed to me that the romantic developments plateaued about halfway through and the author had to make up ways to keep it up for another 100 pages. Don't get me wrong--I love romantic tension but sometimes their reasoning for being apart or together was just plain ridiculous. #3: Cassandra was either super blind or the author forgot that if you are nearsighted, you don't need glasses to read--unless you are so nearsighted that even a book is too far away (I know because this is my life) to read. But, Cassandra says at one point that she couldn't see a dozen feet without them...not 5 inches. But yet she's constantly using them to read or Whittaker is reminiscing about her using them for her studies!! And it doesn't say she wears bi-focals so...it just seemed like a weird overlooked and inconsistent detail that kept popping up over and over. I may seem be emphasizing some of the negatives but truly, overall it was an excellent book! Can't wait for more from Laurie Alice Eakes. less
