review 1: It's between 3 and 4 stars. There are some really good stories in here. I really liked Neil Gaiman's contribution, The Case of Death and Honey, which was actually the strongest story in here. The other ones that I liked were: You'd Better go in Disguise by Alan BradleyThe Men with the Twisted Lips by S.J. RozanThe Adventure of the Purloined Paget by Phillip and Jerry MargolinThe Startling Events in the Electrified City by Thomas PerryThe Adventure of the Concert Pianist by Margaret MaronLooking back now, the stories I liked most were the ones that actually had Holmes and Watson in them, with the exception of the Purloined Paget which was solved using a knowledge of Holmes.
review 2: When Sir Arthur Conan penned the Sherlock Holmes novels, he joined others such
... more as H.G Wells and playwright William Shakespeare, in a master class all their own. In this collection of short stories inspired by the tales of Holmes, I thought those in a modern setting missed the point entirely. I firmly believe that the stories were meant to be told without the aid of modern forensic science and other associated trickery for the sake of a good story. All we have now, is the abysmal 'Elementary' series, and Benedict Cumberpatch & Martin Freeman, whilst they are good actors, they should adopt the original subject matter. Out of all the stories in this book, I really only enjoyed, was Thomas Perry's 'The Startling Events In The Electrified City', as it was set around the time big cities were able to use electricity for the first time. less

Basically amateurish Sherlock fanfiction, with the exception of Neil Gaiman's lovely little story.
alas
I was underwhelmed by most of the stories in here. The Neil Gaiman one was by far the best.
