Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes
review 1: This is the sequel to The Language of Bees" and carries on literally where the previous book ended. Sort of an intricate story, narration is good - very good at times - but once again the last 50 pages or so disappointed me. Is Laurie King unable to finish her stories properly? It feels like she's focusing mainly on leaving open doors for her next book.... I'm afraid the "Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes" series is showing signs of tiredness.
review 2: By the time you get to the tenth book in a series it is often the case that things become a bit formulaic and stale. Not so in this contribution to the wonderful, blistering world of Sherlock Holmes and his ever so young wife Mary Russell. This book is about Mycroft, that ever shadowy figure, and really focuses on
... morethe importance of family. I could not put it down, invested as I am in the series, King's fast paced and delightful take on the other side of 1920s England, and the realization of just who Mycroft is. That said, if you have not read at least some of the earlier books in the series I would not recommend starting here. Go back to either the first book (The Beekeeper's Apprentice) or to the third (A Letter of Mary). If you are a fan of the series, you shouldn't miss this one! less

If you have not read any of the Mary Russell series you really should do so as you will be in for a treat. Especially if you like Sherlock Holmes.Sherlock and Mary have gone in different directions trying to save both Sherlock's son and his grand-daughter from an unseen enemy. And, Mycroft Holmes goes missing so, can of no help at all.An enemy within the government is always hard to find and in this case it seems even more so. Who do they trust then? No one but themselves and a few hangers on they come across.
