review 1: Definitely the weakest of this series thus far, unfortunately. There are so many elements that should have made this book great: Gilbert and Sullivan, the roaring 20s, silent movies... Sherlock Holmes! However, I was rather surprised to find myself utterly bored by the first half, and entertained by the second half but ultimately disappointed by the lack of a good mystery. Hopefully the next book in the series will return to the quality of the previous books!
review 2: A pretty slow starter, or at least it seemed so to me. Perhaps there were a bunch of details I was supposed to "catch" but didn't. ... moreamed up a complicated, if not overly complicated, premise: to wit--a story about making a film about making a (silent) film about the Pirates of Penzance, on location in black and white. Sheesh. less

Not much of a story, no Sherlockian qualities. Just a tour of Lisbon and Morocco.
