review 1: I'm afraid I did not finish this novel. If a story doesn't grab me by the end of the first chapter I am unable to continue it. I attempted to listen to this on audio with Ralph Lister as the narrator and persevered to the end of the second chapter.Mr. Lister has a very, pleasing, melodious speaking voice but CAN NOT do a Scottish accent! This completely ruined a fairly mediocre first couple of chapters. I detected a very poor attempt at Scottish which sounded more like Irish and even Welsh. In a different set of circumstances I would like to listen to Mr.Lister narrate an English story. There are too many good Scottish narrators out there. Sorry, perhaps if the story had been more gripping I would have stuck with it but just couldn't.
review 2: I absolutely lov
... moreed this story, and I find myself to be a very harsh critic evidenced by the very small number of five star ratings. I will admit that it started off slow, and initially I thought to abandon to a do not read finish; however, having said that, it picks up very quickly, it is a great read, well written, a unique plot focusing on romance and not intrigue, a strong hero and a great heroine (not annoyingly shrewish as the title would suggest- I actually LOVED her). I could not put this book down even to the point of neglecting my daily activities. SO SWEET! less
