The Dominic Grey Novels
review 1: I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first for one main reason. Veronica. What an annoying character! I was physically rolling my eyes every time she said something! Nyah in the first novel was such a good play against Dominic but Veronica was an emotionally needy lead weight in this novel. She merely served to complicate the plot without bringing anything good to it. I think that her character was completely unnecessary and she could be cut out completely and not affect the story at all.Aside from Veronica's character, the story was interesting but I was sad that there wasn't more involvement of the "mummies". I feel like a lot of intriguing tidbits were dropped here and there that were never followed up on. All in all, this one did not impress but so far I am enjoying... more the third book!
review 2: Searching for the elixir of life? Watch out for the mace wielding mummy! After recovering from near death in Zimbabwe, Grey finds himself in Prof. Victor Radek's employment. His first case involves the theft of a vial of liquid from an eccentric Egyptian scientist obsessed with finding the elixir of life. The case takes him from New York to Bulgaria to Cairo where he builds new relationships and alliances. Together Grey and his new friends fight for their lives and come face to face with their own mortality and longevity in search of the magical liquid. As with the Summoner, this book has you on the edge of your seat fearing for each character. Grey is once again the strong warrior type saving everyone around him. But with his heart fixated in the unrequited love from Nya, it seems he's doomed to suffer loneliness for some time still. Although violent and with a gripping and very original storyline, it's not as gruesome as the Summoner. less
