The Saga of Recluce
review 1: A new twist in the anachronic series of the Saga or Recluce. At first I was bothered by the non chronologically lineal order L.E. Modesitt writes his books in the Saga of Recluce, but as I read the various books, I am constantly thrown back or forward in time in the History of that Mysterious planet that seems to be lost in a mysterious "pocket" universe, apart and "perpendicular" to all known parallel universes. A throwback to the author's extensive background in "traditional" Sci-Fi. Yes this is Epic Fantasy, but there's a constant reminder of where the first inhabitants of this Low-Tech planet came from. The White Demons and the Dark Angels of the Rational Stars, the opposing forces of Order and Chaos, contrarily to the traditional Good versus Evil. This new Volume In t... morehe Saga of Recluce, is no exceptions to this apparent jumbling of the time line of the planet. This is the link between the Heydays of the Glorious Empire of Cyador* and what seems to be the first stone in the future empire Hamor... It shows us how, after the fall of Cyador, the Cyadorans did not completely disappear but became a forlorn people, trying to rebuild in a foreign land while attempting to preserve what little customs, traditions, knowledge and technology they have left of the bygone era of their glory. This seems to be the first book of a couple of perhaps a trilogy of books that will link historically the People of Old Cyador, to the people of Hamor, Austra and the other continents. *This is way before the Angels Ship falls in turn to the same planet (Fall of Angels)seemingly thousands of years after the White Demons who Created Cyador, even though, those first White Demons were not only contemporary, but the very same people who were fighting the Angel Ship before it to crashed on that planet. Although the battle and both ships crashing happened almost simultaneously as they were both caught in the same cosmic storm. However, the minutes or seconds in time difference, when both ships crossed what appeared to be a "Time Warping Barrier", turned out to be thousands of years difference by the Time the "Angels" crash Landed. By then Cyador had come and gone, the technology they brought with them from the Rational Stars had long gone. The Angels were met by a Population of a Low Tech world, who seemed to be mixed with descendants of those the White Demons they were battling before they crashed only a few days before.
review 2: What can I say about this story? It is a Goodread. The depth of characters and their life issues dealing with order and chaos continue in this U-verse. The only issue I have with Modesitt's books is that once started they have to be finished quickly. Then I wait to read more. It doesn't matter who the characters are or their background the writing is superb. I would give this story a 4.5. This book can stand alone. less
