review 1: I finished this several days ago & was so excited to get into the next book that I forgot to review this one. It continues on with the same character from the 4th & is every bit as good. Can I say more? Sure. Should I? No. Don't start with this book. You can start with the 4th book, although I'd suggest starting with the first & read them in published order. While this set comes first chronologically, Modesitt grows our understanding of the world better in published order.
review 2: It got only 3 stars from, me instead of 4 due to the ending -- it was cleary written as an ending to a book mid-series instead of having a full resolution. I would've given it 3.5. That said, I just purchased the next in the series, ha! I appreciated the struggles of gove... morernorship as seen through Quaeryt's eyes: you can't keep everyone happy; I'm sure our own President feels that every day. I'm interested to see how Quaeryt's lord will treat him in the next few books now that his power is publicly known. And also interested to see how the schools for imagers and scholars will resolve, since this is the time before Rhynn when these schools have yet to be established! less
