review 1: I picked this up for a bargain and didn't expect much from it, but found myself buried in the story and mystery quickly. If you love the romance of the English countryside in winter, and Christmas around the fire then this might be for you. The book goes through different generations of the same family, setting up mysteries and answers in relation to the present day story the book is telling. It all weaves together well and left me satisfied at the end. Defintely worth a read.
review 2: The things I really liked about this book where: the history of the Northern farmlands of England, the traditions as well, the background stories and legend (what life would have been like long ago), and the ancestor characters. Things I didn't really like: the ending felt kind
... moreof lame after all the trouble I had gone through to learn about the family and all that had happened to the farm, the characters that were in the here and now were boring compared to their ancestors, and I felt like I was left hanging without any conclusion or resolution. It was a quick read and interesting in its own way though. Thus two stars. less
