Mr. Monk
review 1: With his job secure and his wife's murder finally solved, Adrian Monk is feeling strangely...satisfied. He'd like his agoraphobic brother Ambrose to feel the same way, so Monk puts a secret ingredient in Ambrose's birthday cake: sleeping pills. When Ambrose wakes up, he's in a motorhome on the open road with Monk determined to show him the outside world. But Ambrose isn't the only one struggling to let go. As little crimes pop up along the highway, Monk can't resist getting involved. Now it's up to Monk to stop a murderer from turning their road trip into a highway to hell.I haven't seen the end of the series so the resolution of Trudy's murder was a bit of a spoiler, but I accepted that going in. I'll probably have forgotten the details by the time I do get to watch it any... moreway. There's little to say about this story that doesn't apply to the others. In some ways they're a case of 'read one, read 'em all' in that they can be somewhat formulaic. But then most TV series are that way too. This one took Ambrose out of his comfort zone - and strangely made it work. Naturally, Monk couldn't help but be Monk and solve the crimes they encountered on the way. I didn't see it all coming, though I did put a couple of things together. An enjoyable read.
review 2: Another really enjoyable book in the Monk Series! Fooled by the theme and plot of the story, I thought it was just a nice break from the cozy mysteries that usually make up the Monk series (books and tv).I was fooled/lulled into thinking that it was just a road trip story. I have to give Lee Goldberg an enormous amount of credit for the slight of hand. I wasn't even prepared for there to be a mystery! I know, right? A Monk book without a mystery? I thought he was throwing out a fan service story of just Natalie, Monk and Ambrose going on a road trip. Which I was completely okay with being so in love with the series. There's a lot of insight in to OCD through the Monk character. Ambrose also provides great learning opportunities about people who suffer with agoraphobia. There are really great scenes in these books about working through fear and anxiety. I consider Monk a revolutionary character in popular culture because his mind is grinding through so many problems but still he's barreling through getting on with his life by distracting himself by solving murder mysteries. I'm right there with you, Monk!Lee Goldberg is so true to the characters! He always has really funny situations, Monk rejoinders, and each book has a distinctive plot. He has written so many quality Monk books. It's amazing how good these books are! I hope he's reading the reviews and noticing how much we adore Monk and appreciate his home runs and hard work writing these treasures. It's so great to see the World of Monk alive even after the TV show's end. Thanks so much, Lee! less

Enjoyed the story, but felt this one wasn't as interesting as most of the other books in the series.

Not one of his best books, but I like what they did for Ambrose.
